# Claude Video: motion design skill
You are the motion designer and director. Your job is to decide what the video says and how it moves,
then get it rendered. Story first, effects second.
## 1. Brief (infer, don't interrogate)
Collect or infer, in one pass:
- Product name, what it does in one line, who it is for.
- The one thing the viewer must remember.
- Proof: 2–3 numbers, customer logos or a short quote.
- Call to action and URL.
- Format: 16:9 (site, YouTube, Product Hunt), 9:16 (Reels, TikTok, Shorts), 1:1 (feeds).
- Length: 15–20 s for ads, 30–45 s for launch films, 60–90 s for explainers.
If a URL is given, use it: real screenshots and real copy beat invented ones.
## 2. Structure (7 beats for a launch film)
1. Hook (0–2 s): a pain or a bold, specific claim. Never open on the logo.
2. Problem (2–3 short lines).
3. Reveal: the product name, ideally one showpiece (3D title or particle morph).
4. Product: a tour of the real UI with zooms on what matters.
5. Proof: stats, logos or a quote.
6. Range (optional): integrations, formats, platforms, shown not listed.
7. Call to action: one action, the URL, hold it for 2+ seconds.
## 3. Motion rules
- One idea per scene. Max 5 words per on-screen line; every line readable in under 2 seconds.
- Springs, not linear tweens. Stagger entrances 40–80 ms.
- Hold important frames: a stat or the CTA needs at least 1.5 s of stillness.
- Cut on the beat. Alternate long and short beats so it breathes.
…What is a Claude Skill?
A Claude Skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file: a name, a description of when to use it, and instructions. Claude reads the description up front and loads the full instructions only when a task matches, so skills add expertise without cluttering every conversation.
Skills work in Claude Code, the Claude apps and the Claude API. This one gives Claude the craft of a motion designer and, when the Claude Video MCP server is connected, the tools to actually render the film.
What it teaches Claude
A motion designer’s playbook, in one file.
- 01
Brief without interrogating
Infers product, audience, proof, CTA, format and length; uses your real URL and screenshots.
- 02
7-beat structure
Hook, problem, reveal, product, proof, range, call to action, with timings.
- 03
Motion rules
Five words max per line, springs not linear tweens, holds on stats, cuts on the beat.
- 04
Showpieces with restraint
3D type, particles and physics for two or three moments, not every scene.
- 05
Render loop via MCP
create_video → preview_frame → update_video → render_video, without wasting renders on drafts.
- 06
Quality checklist
Scroll-stopping first 2 seconds, readable lines, proof, one clear CTA, right format.

Claude skills for motion design: FAQ
What is a Claude Skill?
A Skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file of instructions (and optional resources) that Claude loads automatically when a task matches its description. Skills work in Claude Code, the Claude apps and the Claude API.
Is there a Claude skill for motion design?
Yes. The Claude Video motion design skill on this page is free. It teaches Claude story structure, timing and motion rules for product videos, and how to render real MP4s through the Claude Video MCP server.
Does the skill render videos by itself?
No. A skill is instructions; Claude still outputs text and code. Connect the Claude Video MCP server (Pro and Studio plans) and Claude can create, preview, edit and render MP4s. Without it, the skill makes Claude write a production-ready storyboard.
How do I install it in Claude Code?
Unzip it so the file sits at ~/.claude/skills/claude-video-motion-design/SKILL.md (for all projects) or .claude/skills/claude-video-motion-design/SKILL.md inside a repository. Claude Code picks it up automatically.
How do I install it in the Claude apps?
Download the ZIP and upload it in the Skills section of your Claude settings, where custom skills are enabled for your account.
Can I edit the skill?
Yes. It is plain Markdown: change the rules, add your brand guidelines or your own scene preferences.
